My Latest Op-Ed: Congress Needs to Go Big or Go Home
This week, I laid out a simple argument in The Washington Examiner: Republicans were elected to fix the mess in Washington, not manage it. President Trump has taken bold action, but executive orders only go so far if Congress refuses to do its job. Families are still getting crushed by healthcare costs; young people can’t afford a home; and too many in Congress are afraid to take on the permanent bureaucracy. Republicans were given a mandate—it's time to deliver on it.

The Minibus: A Bad Deal That Sets Up the Next Fight
The good news is that the government shutdown ended after just three days. The bad news is House Republicans failed to block swampy Democrat earmarks in the minibus, including funding for clinics that provide gender-affirming care and billions for migrant resettlement, which is why I voted no.
Republicans were told these earmarks were necessary to get the bill through the Senate, only for Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to reject the deal and send it back with only 10 days of funding for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). That decision sets up another potential shutdown for DHS when the department's funding expires on February 13.

Clintons Cave, Will Appear for Oversight Depositions
After months of delaying and defying duly issued subpoenas, former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have agreed to appear in Washington for transcribed, filmed depositions before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.
The committee had already approved contempt of Congress resolutions after the Clintons failed to comply with lawful subpoenas, and House floor action was postponed only after they reversed course. The committee will depose Hillary Clinton on February 26 and Bill Clinton on February 27 as part of its investigation into the horrific crimes of Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

FIT Procurement Act Advances Unanimously in Oversight Committee
On Wednesday, the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform advanced my bill, the Federal Improvement in Technology (FIT) Procurement Act, as part of a broader bipartisan markup focused on modernizing federal operations and reducing waste. The bill targets a broken procurement system that locks out small businesses, buries agencies in paperwork, and wastes taxpayer money on outdated purchasing rules. If enacted, the FIT Procurement Act would make it easier for agencies to buy modern technology, allow more small businesses to compete, and save taxpayers millions of dollars each year.

House Plans to Vote on SAVE America Act
Next week, the House is planning to vote on the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, legislation that would require states to verify U.S. citizenship and photo identification before allowing voters to cast ballots in federal elections. The SAVE America Act makes clear that voting in federal elections is a right reserved for American citizens and should require the same basic identification expected in everyday life.
If the bill passes in the House, it would increase pressure on the Senate to finally take up common-sense election-integrity legislation supported by a strong majority of Americans.

Doing More with Less: Deleting Duplicative Programs
On Wednesday, February 11, the House Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency (DOGE) will hold a hearing titled "Doing More with Less: Deleting Duplicative Programs." Washington wastes billions of taxpayer dollars on overlapping programs that deliver little in return, from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) harassing law-abiding citizens to the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) masquerading as charities with your money. Too often, government tries to act as a charity or as "big brother," but bureaucracy cannot replace community, family, or personal responsibility.

74th Annual National Prayer Breakfast
On Thursday, I attended the 74th Annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington, D.C., joining leaders from across the country for a moment of reflection, prayer, and fellowship. The National Prayer Breakfast has been held each year since 1953, bringing together members of Congress, faith leaders, and guests from around the world to focus on the role of faith in public life. The breakfast serves as a reminder of the values that unite us and the importance of humility and service in leadership.

Helping Constituents Navigate IRS and SBA Challenges
Dealing with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or the Small Business Administration (SBA) can be overwhelming, especially when refunds are delayed or questions go unanswered. That’s why my office will host an IRS and SBA Assistance Week across Missouri’s Seventh District from February 23 through February 27, with events in Pineville, Joplin, Mount Vernon, Hollister, and Springfield.
While my office cannot file tax returns, my team can help cut through federal red tape, contact agencies directly, and move stalled cases forward. For locations and details, visit burlison.house.gov or call 417-889-1800.
